BALTIMORE, MD (12/21/05) ---
axonX LLC, Baltimore Shipping Technologies LLC and
Sensics Inc. all client companies
in Baltimore City’s Emerging Technology Center (ETC),
have been awarded a total of $200,000 in grants under three different
Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO)
Technology Transfer Initiatives.
“TEDCO has an array of funding programs for early stage companies
unmatched in the U.S.,” said ETC’s Executive Director, Ann Lansinger.
“These grants will help further the development and demonstrate the
performance of exciting new technology.”
A $50,000 Aberdeen Technology Transfer Initiative grant will fund the
testing of the axonX (www.axonx.com)
SigniFire™ Video-Based Fire Detection within the standards of the
Factory Mutual (FM) Approval
Process. The Aberdeen Test Center (ATC)
will provide the performance fire testing in a large volume building as
required by Factory Mutual. The SigniFire™ video-based fire and smoke
early warning system has many existing and potential military, homeland
security, and commercial applications.
The Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG)
Science and Technology Board, APG Business Development Office (BDO) and
TEDCO have formed a
collaboration to facilitate the transfer of technology. Funding for the
ATTI
is provided by Congress through the U.S. Army Developmental Test
Command.
Baltimore Shipping Technologies receipt of a $75,000 Maryland
Technology Transfer Initiative (MTTF) grant will help fund further
development of the company’s innovative modular shipping container
system licensed from the Naval Surface Weapons Center (NSWC)
at Indianhead. Additional development work will be undertaken via a
Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with
NSWC.
The goal of TEDCO’s MTTF is to encourage the transfer of technology
between Maryland companies and eligible federal labs or universities.
The MTTF was initially funded in 2001 by a grant of $460,000 from the
Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED). For
2005, TEDCO has allocated $1.75 million to the fund due to its
popularity.
Lastly, Sensics (www.sensics.com)
has been awarded a NAVAIR
Technology Commercialization Initiative Grant (NTCI). This $75,000 grant
will be used to get software developed by the NAVAIR Crew System
Division running on the Sensics wide field-of-view headset, piSight™.
The aim is to demonstrate that the Navy’s existing design and simulation
software can work well with the Sensics hardware.
TEDCO and The Patuxent Partnership (TPP)
have contracted with the Naval Air Warfare Center – Aircraft Division (NAWCAD)
to facilitate the transfer of technology. Technology development
projects will be considered within the scope of the NTCI if the company
can show how the proposed technology will meet the technology needs of
NAVAIR. Funding for the NTCI is provided by the U.S. Congress.
